A deck is the document most likely to leave the building

Presentations are sent to clients, investors, conferences and journalists, forwarded onwards, and posted as downloads. They are also the Office file most often built from an internal template, which means the properties name the organisation, the department and frequently the individual.

The editing time field is worth a thought before sending a pitch deck: it reports, cumulatively, how many minutes the file has been open for editing since it was created.

The parts of a deck this cannot reach

Speaker notes. They are slide content, they survive, and they are visible to anyone who opens the file rather than only presents it — which is the most common accidental disclosure in a shared deck.

The same applies to slides hidden from the presentation, to objects moved off the edge of the canvas, and to images cropped in PowerPoint, which keeps the whole original picture and merely displays part of it. Cropping is not deletion, and a metadata cleaner cannot tell the difference.

Removing PowerPoint presentation metadata: common questions

Do the slides change?
Not at all. Layouts, fonts, images, animations and transitions are copied across untouched; only the property files are replaced.
Are speaker notes removed?
No — they are content, not metadata. Anyone who opens the file rather than presenting it can read them, so delete anything you would not want read before sending the deck onwards.
What about images I cropped?
PowerPoint keeps the full original image and displays only the part you left visible, so a crop can be undone by the recipient. Use "Compress Pictures" with "Delete cropped areas of pictures" in PowerPoint before cleaning the file here.
Is the file uploaded?
No. The file is rewritten inside your browser and never leaves your device — which is the only arrangement that makes sense for a tool whose job is to remove information you would rather not share.
How do I know it worked?
The page lists what it found before the removal and inspects the result afterwards, so you watch the list go empty. You can also check independently: the properties dialog of whatever application opens the file will show the same thing.
