Here it does not travel at all — your browser does the work, so a large file is limited by your own machine rather than by a queue, and nothing is watermarked at the end of it.

Changing the container, not the picture
Most video conversions do not need to re-encode anything. An MP4 and a MKV holding the same H.264 video are two boxes around identical contents, and moving between them is a matter of rewriting the box — fast, and with no quality change whatsoever because no pixel is touched. This is called remuxing, and where it is possible it is what happens.
Re-encoding is only necessary when the codec itself has to change, and that is where time and quality actually go. Each pair says which of the two it is, because "convert MP4 to WebM" and "convert MP4 to MKV" sound equally trivial and are not.
Pulling the audio out
Taking the soundtrack from a video is the most common thing people want from this category, and it is a copy rather than a conversion when the audio is already in a format you asked for. Where it has to be re-encoded, the quality setting is yours.
One caveat worth stating: what your browser can encode depends on your browser. We check what yours actually supports before offering a target, rather than listing everything and failing halfway through. If a chip is missing on your machine, that is why.
Video converter: common questions
Is there a file size limit?
None that we impose. Because the conversion runs on your own machine, the limit is your memory rather than our capacity — which in practice means a very large video is the first thing to struggle on a phone and usually fine on a laptop.
Is my video uploaded?
No. It never leaves your device, which for video is also why it is fast — there is no round trip. Disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded and it still works.
Will converting reduce the quality?
Often not at all. Where the video can simply be moved into a different container the picture is copied across untouched. Where the codec has to change it is re-encoded, and each page tells you which case yours is.
Why is a format missing on my machine?
Because your browser cannot encode it. We probe what is actually available before showing a target rather than offering everything and failing partway through. A different browser may show more.
